For Ishøj Municipality, we have developed a new and modern website that takes care of all aspects of communication between municipality and citizen.
In general, the solution is built around a wide range of content modules that make it extremely flexible for municipal content editors to create new content pages. Editors can make use of video and images, news lists, events, section-based themes, and more.

CMS decisive in choosing supplier
Where do you start when replacing an older Drupal website with a new, modern one?
You start by talking to industry peers about their experiences with suppliers and flexible CMS platforms. In this case, there was no clear-cut supplier choice, so the CMS became the key decision factor.
Umbraco CMS stood out as a strong and flexible solution, and as an Umbraco Gold Partner, Illumi was selected after a thorough evaluation process.
Our old website was no longer up to date, and a new, modern website was needed. We were guided through the process in the best possible way, and Illumi’s ability to find solutions to unexpected challenges - and new needs that arose along the way - was outstanding. MVP scope and agility in the implementation phase
Together with the project team at Ishøj Municipality, we scoped the project based on an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) approach, which has worked really well.
We had an agile process around the development, and as the foundation was built, we expanded the solution as new needs were uncovered. This approach has meant that money has only been spent on features that create value for the users of the solution.
UX design
The communication task on a municipal website is complex. There is a lot of information across sectors and for many different target groups.
Therefore, during the design phase, we have worked a lot with information architecture so that the large amount of content pages are grouped and linked logically so that citizens can intuitively orientate themselves and easily find what they are looking for.
We use colour themes to visualise different areas of the website and improve orientation.
The collaboration with Illumi has been great throughout the entire process. Illumi has been good at tailoring the process according to our wishes and has always been quick to solve the challenges we have encountered along the way. All in all, we have experienced a highly competent, professional, service-minded team at Illumi.

Web Accessibility
As Ishøj Municipality is subject to the guidelines for web accessibility, we have focused on ensuring the necessary technical support for users with various disabilities during the development process.
Together with the editors, we use the Monsido platform for ongoing work and monitoring of web accessibility on the website.
All editors have access to Monsido and the solution delivers an editor ID to Monsido so they can keep a special eye on the pages they are responsible for.
During the development phase, we also tested the solution on people with visual impairments. During the test, they used their various tools and gave us feedback on accessibility challenges that a machine test cannot detect. The solution naturally complies with the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.
Universes
It is possible to create any number of universes where, for example, institutions can have subsites with their own front page, simplified menu structure and a search function limited to that specific universe.
Illumi provided a professional and personal service, guiding us throughout the transition from our old website to the new one. With a large, content-heavy site, challenges are inevitable - but Illumi consistently stepped in and resolved them quickly and competently.

Automatic pdf
A feature that is relevant for schools and institutions is the ability to generate a PDF of the pedagogical curriculum. Every time the content on a curriculum page is changed, the corresponding PDF is updated.
Identification of outdated content
In a large solution with more than 1000 pages, it can be difficult to ensure that all pages are up-to-date and have current and relevant content. That's why we have created an Umbraco Backoffice feature that makes it possible to define a rule for when content is outdated and specify which editor and department is responsible for a given page. The system then sends a daily email reminder with a link to the pages in question. As an editor, you can also be more proactive and pull a list of your pages that have not been edited for, say, 3 months.
Municipality info screens
In Umbraco Backoffice, editors can create content/slides for the municipality's many info screens in, for example, swimming pools and libraries. A slideshow can consist of both regular slides with text and images, but the editor can also choose to integrate feeds from Kultunaut or news articles from the website.
Advanced search function
As the solution contains more than 1000 content pages, a good search function is important. We have implemented a live search that provides instant search results as soon as you start typing in the search box. In the search result, the topics are displayed based on a complicated relevance scoring, so the user finds a good search result among the top topics.
Integration to borger.dk
Through integration with borger.dk, a number of "standard" articles are displayed that apply to all municipalities in Denmark. The articles are automatically retrieved and synchronised from borger.dk and given a date stamp indicating when the article was last updated. The standard articles are inserted on a page via a content module so that the page can be enriched with other content such as images or cross-links to other relevant content.
Integration to SBSYS
SBSYS is a widely used municipal ESDH (electronic case and document management) system. The integration makes it possible to drag agendas, minutes, etc. into Umbraco. Here, the articles are indexed so that they can be displayed when searching the content on ishoj.dk.
From Umbraco Backoffice, editors can specify which areas/committees should appear in the front end. The articles are synchronised on an ongoing basis, but you can also force synchronisation if needed.
