New performance-focused website aims to attract more students to Bygholm Landbrugsskole
Bygholm Landbrugsskole has more than 60 years as one of the country's leading agricultural colleges. Over the years, the school has evolved both in the academic field but also in terms of teaching facilities. Today, the school is a modern educational institution with a clear strategy to prepare young people to take responsibility for the environment and run sustainable farms.
The solution
Platform for recruitment
Together with social media, the website bygholm.dk is the most important digital platform for recruiting new students, and the old website, which was quite a few years old, was not sufficiently geared for this purpose.
Both visually and technically, the old website was not up to par with the expectations of a modern school's online presence. Therefore, there was a need for new thinking with a focus on young people who want to explore the many opportunities offered by agricultural education.
Like many other organisations, Bygholm's old website had over time become tarnished in its expression and message, and visitors were met with content that was noisy in terms of making the decision to choose Bygholm Landbrugsskole over one of the many other schools. Therefore, both usability and performance were highly valued in the new solution.
Workshop and persona
When we start a new project, we always organise a workshop where we aim to get a solid insight with these questions:
How should the new solution support the business strategy?
Who will the solution help and with what?
What specific requirements are there for the solution?
Are there already specific guidelines for a new visual design?
In the workshop with Bygholm, we focused on defining the classic personas to create a good foundation for our UX design and the upcoming content work.
When producing the content for our new site, it was a huge advantage to have Illumi's specialists looking over our shoulder and providing constructive input. Both in terms of structure, SEO and at text level. This means that we have a user-friendly site where content and design work well together.

Umbraco as CMS for Bygholm's new website
We built the new website in Umbraco, which is a modern CMS platform with a simple and efficient editor interface.
To give the editor the flexibility to build content pages with a focus on who the visitors are, we have developed a wide range of different content modules.
It makes my job as a web editor easier that we have switched to a platform with an editor interface that is intuitive to work with. the different modules we have developed give us a lot of options, but still ensure a consistent look and feel on the site.
Marie Gaarden, Communications Manager at Bygholm Landbrugsskole
The content modules should be seen as a pool of "Lego bricks", which together and in different combinations can fulfil the needs of the individual page and content types. The editor can pick from the module list of text sections, images, videos, carousels, fold-in/fold-out sections, etc. without having to think about the visual design, because the modules are designed to be used in any order.
The design is simple and visual, and we have prioritised the use of large images and video elements. The website and the Bygholm Landbrugsskole brand now appear as a place where young people can recognise themselves and see their dreams come true.
About the collaboration
The collaboration has been characterised by a flat structure that has enabled us to make quick decisions on design and functionality. At the same time, we have had a good and important dialogue about content production and on-page SEO, which together with a half-day training in Umbraco CMS, has given the web editor a good foundation to support the overall goal of the platform - attracting new students to the school. The schedule was kept and the project was completed 2 days ahead of schedule.
From the very beginning, we felt that we had a professional partner who was committed to delivering high quality and following the project through to the end.

We wanted to go live with a new site very quickly. This meant an intense process well supported by efficient designers and developers. It hasn't been far from thought to action in terms of the adjustments that were needed afterwards.
