SEO tips
Why is SEO important and how should you approach it?
If you want to reach the top, you can’t avoid SEO. In this article, we explain why SEO is no longer a simple on/off choice.
SEO is an abbreviation for Search Engine Optimisation.
When we talk about search engine optimisation, we're usually referring to Google, which is the world's most used search engine. There are other search engines like Baidu (12%), Bing (12%) and Yahoo (2%), but with a market share (laptops and desktops) of just over 71% and the video platform YouTube being the world's second largest search engine, it's natural that we optimise our websites and content primarily for Google. In a nutshell, SEO is about optimising your website so that it follows the search engines' guidelines for what makes a good website. The search engines' primary task is to deliver the exact result that best matches a search query and provides the best user experience for those who click on the site. If you fulfil the guidelines, you will be rewarded with a better ranking in the list of search results.
Understanding what SEO is and keeping up to date with the guidelines will give you a good understanding of the digital environment that your content will be published and live in.
Almost every purchase starts with a Google search
With technological development in hand and the vast amounts of information it makes available, we as consumers have become accustomed to searching the internet for information about all kinds of things, services and services.
More than 70% of consumers start their buying journey with an online search. It's not always a search for a specific product, but often a search for a specific solution to a problem or challenge. That's why it's crucial that you secure your presence at the top of the search results with content, products or solutions to these challenges.
More than 90% of all traffic comes from page 1
Depending on what you search for and how you formulate your search, the list of results will often be hundreds of pages long. This is where SEO comes in, because optimisation helps you get to the top of the search results. As consumers, we rarely look at search results after page 3, and most often we only look at the first page.
More than 90% of all organic traffic on Google that is directed to individual websites comes from the first 10 search results on page 1. If you're not among these 10 results, you don't exist in the eyes of the consumer. A whopping 67% of traffic comes from the first 5 organic search results (Source: netmarketshare.com)

SEO is a cheap approach to marketing
SEO isn't free, but in the big marketing budget it's a relatively cheap way to create visibility - and in the small marketing budget, it might be the only way to create visibility.
The reason SEO isn't free is because it requires a thorough effort to stay ahead of the curve and keep pushing the various SEO buttons. Google is constantly changing its algorithms just as consumers change their search strategies. However, it's worth the effort for your visitors, your brand and ultimately your bottom line.
SEO is a long-term investment that requires you to continuously adjust your website and texts to match the keywords potential customers are searching for and the factors that Google ranks for.
Effective SEO for a better user experience
Everyone wants better organic rankings and greater visibility. However, few people realise that optimising your website's usability has a big impact on whether you achieve it. Google's search robots are intelligent and have long since learnt to decode good usability. That's why it's important that you consider SEO in both your web design and your texts. If the search robots perceive a lack of user-friendliness, it will affect your ranking.
